The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this endearing family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
