Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
