Alarming Statistics of Individuals Now Use E-Cigarettes, Reports Global Health Authority
Over 100 hundred million individuals, comprising at bare minimum 15 million children, now use e-cigarettes, driving a fresh wave of nicotine dependency, as stated by recent global medical findings.
Youth are, typically, nine times more inclined than grown-ups to use e-cigarettes, according to available international figures.
Electronic cigarettes are fueling a "new wave" of nicotine habit, remarked a senior health official. "They are marketed as risk reduction but, actually, are addicting youth on nicotine earlier and risk compromising generations of advancement."
Teens Being 'Focused On'
"Millions of citizens are quitting, or refraining from tobacco use because of tobacco control efforts by states across the globe," the representative stated.
"In response to this substantial improvement, the tobacco industry is fighting back with recent nicotine products, aggressively targeting young people. Authorities must respond more rapidly and more forcefully in applying proven tobacco-control policies," he continued.
The vaping figures are an estimate since several states - 109 in all, and several in African and Asian regions - fail to collect information.
Per the analysis, as of recent February this period, at least 86 million e-cigarette consumers were adults, primarily in high-income countries.
And at bare minimum 15 million youth aged 13 and 15 presently use e-cigarettes, according to studies from 123 countries.
While several nations have tried to establish e-cigarette policies to address youth vaping in the past few years, by the end of 2024, 62 nations still had no measure in operation, and 74 states had no minimum age at which e-cigarettes may be acquired, states the health body.
Simultaneously, tobacco consumption has been declining - from an approximated 1.38 billion users in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.
Frequency of tobacco use among females dropped the most - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.
With men, the drop was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.
But 20% of mature individuals worldwide still employs tobacco.
